2026 World Championship Wrap-Up

How things have changed…

For those newer to the sport who may not know its history, when Jeff Perry & Gilbert (1989) and I, Peter Bloeme, & Wizard (1984) won our World Championships, the landscape looked very different. There was only one competition series, one division, 12 U.S. finalists (two from each of six regions), and the entire World Championship wrapped up in about three hours.

Since then, Skyhoundz has helped introduce new events, divisions, and classes in competition, while Hyperflite has introduced an assortment of disc types, sizes, and formulations. The sport has grown tremendously, with multiple competition series, disc companies, and countless new enthusiasts joining the community.

Every September, the best disc dog teams in the world come to Chattanooga to compete for a Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship title. What most spectators never see is the small army of people who make it all happen. Long before the first throw and long after the last dog leaves the field, our volunteers are there setting up, scoring, timing, checking in competitors, keeping schedules on track, capturing the moments, and solving the countless problems that pop up over a championship week.

This year’s event simply would not have been possible without them. Many of these folks have been with us for years, some traveled a long way to be here, and all of them gave their time, energy, and expertise so that our competitors could focus on what matters most: playing with their dogs on the biggest stage in the sport.

To each of you, thank you. You are the heart of the Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship.

Among the many people who pitched in this year, we’d especially like to recognize:

Gina Adams, Criss Brown, Kurt Brown, Stephanie Carbaugh, Justin Daniels, Elaina Davis, Melissa Eckerman, George Freeman, Linda Gray, Abi Hernandez, Gabo Huerta, Mark Jennings, Blake Kilbourne, Candie Kilbourne, Killian Kilbourne, Doug Kurucz, Birgit Locklear, Chuck Locklear, Jeff Love, Tracy Love, Ray Lowman, Sam Marion, Mike Miller, Frank Montgomery, Todd Queen, Crystal Repko, Matt Repko, Jason Rigler, Jackie Scheetz, Aura Maria Moreno Sierra, Tony Simcic, Carla Swainston, Swanee Swainston, Mary Denise Williamson, Brad Zeigler

And to everyone else who lent a hand, whether for a whole week or just a few minutes when we needed it most, please know your help did not go unnoticed. Thank you!

— Peter Bloeme, Jeff Perry, Greg Perry, Laura Guadarrama, and the entire Skyhoundz team
