Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship History
2026 will mark the 25th Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship. The first event was held on October 7, 2000, in New York City's Central Park, under Nestlé's sponsorship; the championship came under the Skyhoundz name the following year, in 2001.
In 2001 the World Championship was scheduled on the Washington Monument Grounds on Saturday, September 15, 2001. There were competitors in the air from Japan that were diverted to Detroit because of the terror attacks on the US. We all regrouped and scheduled the Worlds about a month later on October 20, 2001, at Life University in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Skyhoundz World Championship again took place at Life University in 2002.
In 2003, we moved west to hold the World Championship in Pleasanton, California.
From 2004-2007 the Skyhoundz World Championship was held in Atlanta's Piedmont Park. We were planning on holding it there again in 2008, but there was a drought in Atlanta, and organized public events were not permitted at Piedmont Park.
So, in 2008 we were forced to scramble for a new location. Jeff Perry suggested Chattanooga, Tennessee because he remembered an awesome venue that he thought would be perfect for our event...Coolidge Park.
So, we jumped in the car and drove to Chattanooga where we met with Outdoor Chattanooga's Philip Grimes. He told us that we couldn't use Coolidge Park because there were no dogs permitted there and proceeded to show us nearly every public park in Chattanooga. But, we didn't feel that any of them would showcase the event accordingly. Finally, he asked if we would be interested in using Chattanooga's minor league baseball team's field. Of course, we were interested, but we never thought that we'd be allowed to do so.
However, when we met with Frank Burke, the owner of the Chattanooga Lookouts at the time, his two Golden Retrievers met us at the door to their offices. Then, after our presentation, his comment was, "Great, let's do it!" He couldn't have been more supportive and accommodating and we held our World Championship and Awards Banquet there from 2008-2012. Meanwhile, in 2011 our World Championship had grown from one series (Skyhoundz Classic) to three with the inclusion of the DiscDogathon and Xtreme Distance. The first year, we held the new events at a local soccer field. The next year we moved the additional events to Camp Jordan where we have held them since (2012-2026).
As far as the Skyhoundz Classic it was our good fortune that as Burke was preparing to sell the Lookouts that with the support of the Chattanooga Convention and Visitor's Bureau along with the new dog-friendly Mayor Burke we were finally allowed to hold our World Championship at Coolidge Park in 2013...but only the competitors' dogs were allowed in the park.
In 2014, after our event proved successful and ran without incident, we were allowed to return to Coolidge Park and spectators' dogs were permitted in the park the weekend of our event.
2026, minus the year of the pandemic, marks our 18th year of hosting our World Championship in Chattanooga, the 14th year at Camp Jordan, and our 13th year at Coolidge Park.

The two Last Chance Qualifier / World Championship locations are Camp Jordan in East Ridge, Tennessee, and Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Event Overview
Chattanooga is going to the dogs — disc-catching dogs, that is! In beautiful Coolidge Park, located in Chattanooga's North Shore recreation and entertainment district, the most talented canine athletes on the planet will take to the skies to compete in the Hyperflite Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship. The Skyhoundz World Championship is the premier event in canine sports, featuring top teams from around the world competing across a range of disciplines designed to showcase the talents of these amazing athletes.
The Hyperflite Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship draws teams from North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
This year, Hyperflite is making available a limited number of commercial booth spaces at Coolidge Park for businesses to promote their brand or sell products.
Booth Size: 10' x 10'
Cost: $250 per space
You may bring anything that fits within your space, including tables, chairs, a tent, samples, handouts, and products for sale. Tents must be securely staked into the ground.
Items Not Permitted:
- Alcohol
- Frisbee discs or flying discs, for sale or giveaway
- Animals of any kind, for sale
Exhibitor Set-Up: Friday–Sunday, 7–10 a.m. Overnight security will be on-site, but we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
No Refunds: Weather may require the event to be moved up, pushed back, or compressed into a shorter time frame; no refunds will be issued in these cases. Full payment is required in advance to reserve your booth space. All sales are final — no cancellations or refunds.
Tips for Exhibitors:
- Dollies will not be available for loan.
- Plan to park and transport your own items to the event site.
- No electricity or internet access will be available.
- Expect large, enthusiastic crowds with applause and music. Please don't bring pets unless they're well-behaved and comfortable in high-stress environments.

Room availability in Chattanooga is limited due to several major events overlapping during this time frame. If you plan on staying anywhere near Chattanooga, book your room early.
