Skyhoundz Rule Changes for the 2019 Competition Season
In order to allow competitors enough time to make scheduling and traveling arrangements, Competition Hosts must register to conduct events with Skyhoundz a minimum of 30 days in advance.
New MicroDog DiscDogathon Division
In hopes of encouraging more MicroDog competitors, Skyhoundz is adding a MicroDog Division (on a two year trial basis).
All DiscDogathon Qualifiers are encouraged to hold:
MicroDog Pairs Distance/Accuracy
MicroDog Spot Landing
Competitors who wish to play with their dogs for fun and/or give their dogs some competitive experience, without World Championship invitations may choose to “audit” a Qualifier. They must specify, in advance of the competition start with the contest host, that they are auditing the competition. To audit a Qualifier, competitors must pay the same entry fee as everyone else, will receive a score (time or distance), be eligible for Skyhoundz records, will receive official placements/awards, but will not receive World Championship invitations. Competitors may not change their entry to audit status after the competition begins. Competitors who audit the competition will not affect any Qualifier slots. Qualifier slots will simply roll down to the next eligible competitor.
If there is a tie for first, second, or third place, the tie will be broken by the following criteria, as necessary: 1) The team with the fewest total throws, 2) A Face-off round with each team receiving 30 seconds in which to score as many points as they can. The dog scoring the most points will be declared the victor. If the teams are still tied after the 30 second playoff, the playoff will continue until one team outscores the other. Officials will permit the competitors to rest their dogs as necessary.
Spot Landing Tie-Breaker
If there is a tie for first, second, or third place, the tie will be broken by the following criteria, as necessary: 1) The team with the fewest total throws, 2) A Face-off round with each team receiving 30 seconds in which to score as many points as they can. The Spot Landing target order/scoring will be the same as usual. The dog scoring the most points will be declared the victor. If the teams are still tied after the 30 second playoff, the playoff will continue until one team outscores the other. Officials will permit the competitors to rest their dogs as necessary.
Spot Landing Scoring
Competitors are required to make one attempt in each scoring zone (progressing from lower to higher value scoring zones) and may then attempt to score in the zones of their choice for the remaining time allotted.
If, in the sole determination of the scoring official, a competitor has not made a reasonable attempt at a scoring zone, he/she will instruct the competitor to try again at that scoring zone.
Competitors are rewarded with the published point values for catches in which the canine lands with all paws inside a scoring zone. Catches landing outside scoring zones are worth one point each “canine effort point(s),” however, the thrower must make a reasonable attempt, in the eyes of the judge, to reach the scoring areas to earn the “canine effort point(s).”
Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) [not regular Qualifiers] / World Championship (WC) Changes
In order to provide competitors a better competition experience, the DiscDogathon LCQ and Xtreme Distance LCQ will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 (with DiscDogathon taking precedence), Xtreme Distance WC will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 and DiscDogathon WC will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. And, we will reserve Thursday, September 19, 2019 as an emergency rain date.
At the Skyhoundz Classic LCQ and WC, competitors will run in the same order for the first two rounds (except Pairs Freestyle which only consists of one round at the LCQ), but will run in reverse order for the final round. At the Skyhoundz Classic WC, Pairs Freestyle will run in reverse order after the first round.
At the Skyhoundz Classic WC a cut to the top 20 teams will be implemented after the second round (Distance Accuracy) in Open, MicroDog Open, and the Youth Division.
