Ken McCort

Ken McCort is a professional animal trainer and behavior consultant. With his wife, Marilyn, a veterinarian, they live in Doylestown, Ohio with a menagerie of animals. They include dogs, cats, birds, miniature horses, a donkey, two goats and a couple of lizards. Ken began training and working with dogs years ago by becoming involved in disc catching tournaments with his white German Shepherd he named Snow.

In 1979 and for the next 6 years, Ken and Snow competed in and sometimes won tournaments. The two were regional runner ups several times in the Ashley Whippet Invitational. When Marilyn developed a fascination for the sport, she trained their other German Shepherd, named Cooner to compete. The two were regional finalist at once. Marilyn went on to veterinary school and Ken continued his career in professional training which began to included many other species of animals besides dogs.

With an interest in working with the human animal bond, Ken has helped many hospitals, senior care facilities and schools to develop programs with animals. The Delta Society recruited Ken in 1991 to help develop their Pet Partner program. Today, Ken is still involved in Pet Partners and is an advisor to the Doggie Brigade at Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio. This program has been going on since 1992 and has 75+ teams involve in visiting the patients at this pediatric facility.

Besides seeing clients and their pets with behavioral concerns, Ken gives presentations and lectures all around the US and in Asia. A frequent speaker in Japan, Ken has been helping the pet industry at several levels in both Japan and Taiwan. In the US, Ken gives an annual seminar at Wolf Park in Battle Ground, IN. As a friend and advisor to the park’s staff and its animals, Ken has helped train the wolves, coyotes and foxes there to participate in cognitive research conducted by some very prestigious scientists.
