2023-2024 Season Rule Updates: Open Qualifiers: For competitors competing in Open Qualifiers, there are no longer any geographic limitations to receive Qs. Any competitor living anywhere in the world may now compete in any Open Qualifier anywhere in the world to qualify for the World Championship. In Skyhoundz Classic Open Qualifiers, we are adding a Sport Youth Division (on an exhibition/trial basis). This means that we will record the results, and award discs given, but there will not be any Qs awarded and the event will not be held at the World Championship. Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQ): At all LCQs, the number of Q spots awarded, per competitor, will be the same as the number offered at Open Qualifiers (two per competitor plus any Pairs Distance/Accuracy or Pairs Freestyle earned). Please note: This rule modification does not affect the total number of Qs available at LCQs, just per-person limits.

Attention-Skyhoundz Classic World Champion Competitors and/or friends and family. Are you interested in the professional photos and/or video of your dog from the 2023 Skyhoundz Classic World Canine Championship? If so, I have some exciting news for you! Karen Images (Troy and Karen Burns) shot high-res stills and 1080p videos of all the Skyhoundz Classic portion of the World Championship that was done on the main field. Because we all want you to have access to the images and video to share the sport with your friends and family, Troy and Karen have offered to do several weeks of editing, processing, cropping, color-correcting, etc., to make available two packages for your purchase: 1) All stills and/or 2) All video of a competitor/dog team that was shot on the main field. You will be free to use and share the images/video in any manner that you like (social media, website, screen savers, etc.). Please note these packages will be per team: one person and one dog for all rounds you competed in (unless a technical error prevented it). If you competed with more than one dog, each dog will have its own package for you to choose from. The final still images will be cropped and color-corrected with no watermark. For the video, we will substitute the background audio with a licensed upbeat tune, so it can be posted on social media like Facebook or YouTube without any copyright issues. As soon as Troy and Karen have completed all their editing and processing, we will provide the information on how to order your 2023 Skyhoundz Classic World Championship package(s)!

Today's Skyhoundz Xtreme Distance World Canine Disc Championship was completed with some incredible throws, awesome attempts, crazy catches, and a dominating performance by Barbara Reinhold who collected all three top spots in three divisions. With Mary Denise Williamson at the helm, and Richard Williamson with his finger on the radar gun, the event was run so close to light speed I think we may have finished before we began. :-) Anyway, the results have been posted on the Skyhoundz website and we're off and running to day three...the DiscDogathon World Canine Disc Championships!

Day one of the Skyhoundz World Championship week marathon is complete! All the scores have been posted on the Skyhoundz website for the DiscDogathon and Xtreme Distance LCQs. Conditions hot, staff and volunteers prepared, competitors enthusiastic, and performances top-notch. And all were winners getting an opportunity to play with their dogs in front of friends and family. Today, we have the Xtreme Distance World Championship on tap with some advanced runs of DiscDogathon Bullseye, Spot Landing, and TimeTrial. Attention: 2023 DD WC Competitors...(please pass the word) In order to assure that all 2023 DD WC competitors have time to complete their competition rounds, we have decided on Tuesday (October 3, 2023) to simultaneously run, along with Xtreme Distance (XD) WC events, the following DD events: Spot Landing, Bullseye, and TimeTrial. In that way, we can reduce the number of rounds that will take place on Wednesday and ensure that all competitors complete their rounds before dark. You are not required to compete on Tuesday, but if you aren't competing in XD WC, or have time between your XD rounds, we encourage you to complete your DD WC rounds. We highly recommend that you compete on Tuesday where possible. For those DD WC competitors participating, the Competitors' Meeting will begin at 8:30 am with Spot Landing starting at 9 am. Please send Criss Brown an email ASAP that you are volunteering to do so, so she can put together a list of competitors. This will make everything more efficient for MadDogs on Tuesday. BACK STORY: In 2020, due to the COVID lockdown when everyone was home and most businesses were closed, our videographer Troy Burns (Metro Productions) and I couldn't help but notice the dearth of entertaining programming being aired on ESPN and other sports networks. After all, there are only so many lawn dart contests, go fish tournaments, shuffleboard events, and water balloon fights that a person should be subjected to, so we decided to put together a show of the (then current) 2019 Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship (SWCDC) in hopes that we could bring some improved entertainment to the masses and expose disc dogs to a new audience. We decided our first attempt would be the Open Divisions (MicroDog, Open, and Youth) of Skyhoundz Classic in hopes that the show would be widely successful and the networks would clammer for more disc dog action...which we had the raw video of in the can. After countless hours of back-and-forth editing, music selection, voice-over, titling, scripting, etc., we had a finished piece that we marketed to fund the production costs. While we felt strongly that the finished show was as entertaining as other "sports" being aired, we couldn't find anyone to take on the month-long production costs which would allow us to produce the 2022 SWCDC that is also in the can. As we look forward to the 2023 SWCDC, we are releasing the 2019 edition following the original plan of it being sponsored by CHEENGZ Disc Golf through our Facebook pages and YouTube channels. Today, Jeff Perry and I attended the renaming ceremony of the Outdoor Chattanooga building to the "Philip Grymes Outdoor Chattanooga Center." Speaking at the event included the current Mayor of Chattanooga, two former Mayors (one of whom went on to become a US Senator for Tennessee), and the Administrator of Parks & Outdoors. The words spoken by those at the ceremony about Philip were loving, respectful, appreciative, and heartfelt. Philip brought the "outdoor," through his dedication, hard work, and commitment, to Chattanooga every day and his legacy will live on. Over the past 15 years, we are grateful for Philip's friendship and efforts in bringing the Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship to his home. A part of him will always live with us and our event and we are forever indebted to him.

Please note the following rule modification for Skyhoundz events in Freestyle (DiscDogathon & Skyhoundz Classic), effective immediately. Skyhoundz will now accept Freestyle scoring results in quarter-point increments (i.e. 5.0, 5.25, 5.5, 5.75, and 6.0) instead of half-point increments (i.e. 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0). This can be especially useful for competitions with a lot of Freestyle competitors.
